Jon Lord - Concerto For Group And Orchestra (2012)
Esta obra legendaria es registrada por primera vez en estudio, en las propias palabras de Lord:
"Después de que me retiré de Deep Purple, realicé este trabajo más de 30 veces con diferentes orquestas y directores de todo el mundo en el año 2000, también lo realicé 30 años despúes con Deep Purple cuando estábamos de gira. He mejorado constantemente su composición, tuve la oportunidad de cambiar el marcador a los lugares que realmente no suenan bien. Así que tan hermosa y deliciosa fruta por fin creo que está terminada con todo mi esfuerzo"

Afortunadamente, Jon fue capaz de escuchar el resultado final pocas semanas antes de su muerte. Su familia y el sello doscográfico decidieron lanzar el álbum en septiembre como estaba previsto. Ellos sentían que no había mejor manera de rendir homenaje a Jon y su bella música. "Concerto For Group And Orchestra" se ha convertido en exactamente en la manera en que Jon quería que fuera, esperamos que John sea recordado por generaciones futuras".
El fundador y alma de Deep Purple Jon Lord, su legendario sonido de blues-rock sigue inspirando a los músicos. Él es sin duda uno de los primeros en combinar el rock y la música clásica (barroco) convirtiéndose en uno de los compositores más importantes de las últimas décadas. En primer lugar el "Concierto para grupo y orquesta" fue realizado en 1969 en el Royal Albert Hall, junto con Deep Purple y la Royal Philharmonic Orchestra dirigida por Malcolm Arnold.
La segunda vez que se toco fue en 30 años, en 1999, esta vez con la Orquesta Sinfónica de Londres.
Una vez en el año 2002, John dejó Deep Purple, continuó sus estudios de música. Su trabajo en solitario ha tenido gran reconocimiento, continuó actuando en el mundo en salas atestadas de la admiración de sus oyentes. 16 de julio 2012 después de una larga batalla contra el cáncer murió.

Karajan - Holst: The Planets [iTunes Plus]
I suppose you might be forgiven if the opening passage of “Mars” brings to mind images of the Nazi march into Poland, considering who is conducting here. It certainly crossed my mind, whether fairly or unfairly, and also reminded me of how well Karajan always did this sort of menacing, overpowering music. This is not a Planets for the faint of heart, and Karajan paints with large, brittle brush strokes, ignoring the niceties of detail and clarity for an overwhelming, forcefully imbued palate of blurred color boundaries and fear-of-God prophetic utterance.
And that’s just the first movement. The rest of this now second-nature suite as presented in this classic recording is similar in concept, though the music tones down somewhat. “Venus” is peaceful only as a respite, always considered in the context of what just went by, and what is to come. “Mercury” is fleet of foot in a cautious way, like a high-wire act a little unsure of itself. “Jupiter” brings not jollity, but triumphalism, and reminded me more than any other movement how German a reading this is. The British renderings of this work are more controlled, keeping the underlying Norman barbarity at bay with the veneer of civilized behavior. Even the big tune shows not nobility but conquest, though the Vienna strings shine with an unbelievable power.
